The quilt on the left is closely based on one made by Aboriginal children in the mid-nineteenth century at the Swan River Settlement. The original is in the National Library of Australia.
The quilt on the right is based on the same design, but with modern Aboriginal and hand-dyed and hand-marbled fabrics, handquilted with perle cotton. I wanted to make a second version that drew on its Aboriginal heritage and also showed how one design could be done in a second, quite different way.
