Laundry

0701 Susannah Place laundry

This is an early 20th century outdoor laundry at Susannah Place museum in Sydney. To the left, two concrete sinks, to the right a copper.

I can't be that old can I? We had a double concrete tub when I was a kid and a copper. By the time I came along mum had a wringer washing machine but I remember dad using the copper to make soap - which mum then had to grate and use in the washing machine. I remember her complaining that it was horrible to use and didn't lather. One of Dad's money saving ideas! Thanks for the memories.

I had a concrete laundry tub exactly like that in my first house 21 years ago LOL. Love the modern white plastic ones now :-)
