The first quilt I ever made

An internet mailing list I belong to has been talking about the first quilt you made.

Way back in 1980, after some smaller ventures into patchwork, I pieced this by machine and quilted it by hand (on a quilt frame made by my dad), as a gift for my sister.

I LOVE that so many more fabrics are available now!
This quilt did everything it was meant to do - it said "I love you" and still keeps my sister and her family warm (it's a sofa/TV quilt now, still in use - they have quilts I've made more recently, too).
So, Caity, I've taken up your challenge. Any more for any more? Let me know in the comments if I can go and see your first quilt.
(Am I embarrassed? No - just realising how much I've learned and how long ago that seems, and how I still like simple designs and how it's the most handquilting I've done on anything but one other quilt...).

Your first quilt looks good! I have very bravely posted my first 2, but they are real shockers. I might regret this...

It is lovely. I think I will post my first quilt. It has similar colors to yours. I hand pieced all the squares. My teacher insisted we learn by hand first.

Roo, it looks lovely! the hand quilting is exactly the right thing for it, too, machine quilting just wouldn't have been the same.
